Faux Pas' Are No Longer Kicks and Giggles
When I was growing up, getting dressed in the morning was all about 'matching'. Blah, blah, blah. For a procrastinator such as myself, it was and endless game of last minute color and style mishaps, with the final ensemble of the day always falling short of what I was imagining in my mind to be the ultimate outfit. I liked the look of things being a little interesting, yet when I allowed myself the freedom of such a faux pas, I was the subject of kicks and giggles among my friends. I would hear things like, "You have the oddest sense of style, Dana; it's a good thing you're so cute". Or, "Only you can get away with wearing stuff like that". The epitome of making me feel like a loser and complimenting me at the same time. Gotta love high school.
Fast forward twenty years. The irony and joy of my life today, is that most of those ensembles that I was made fun of for wearing back then are not only acceptable today, but some fall under the most trendy and haute fashion statements, straight off the Paris runway. My luck, I was just born a few decades too early.
The complete elation regarding tuning in to one's creative juices in the new millenium is that freedom of color and style go for interior design as well as fashion. There really isn't anything you can't do, except maybe have too many of one style in a room. Not a problem here:) The days of Geranimals and Rooms to Go are O.V.E.R...thank the Lord above. I've never felt so eager to get a little extra cash so I can find that vintage navy blue-and-turquoise- chevron-tufted-slipper-chair to pair with my orange-modern-leather-sectional. I'm in mismatching-style heaven!
Don't forget, peeps..the best finds are the pre-existing ones that just need a little TLC. Old bones are usually most solid, have so much potential if reupholstered in modern fabrics, and there are so many great fabrics to choose from. Just another fun and creative way to be a hip earthster...keeping one less chunk of plastic, wood, and fabric out of the landfill masses.

Ode to the Stars...
I bet we could go explore the galaxy if we could stop being dicks for like five minutes... - http://pinterest.com/pin/454511787363761691/
